This month, $960 million in total funding for projects to expand equitable clean transportation, deploy EV charging infrastructure, accelerate EV battery research, and boost the battery supply chain critical to supporting the next phase of widespread EV commercialization were announced. Get details of the January project funding selections.

DOE Announces $131 Million to Boost America’s Battery Supply Chain and Supercharge Electric Vehicle Innovation

On January 18, 2024, DOE announced more than $131 million total for projects to advance research and development (R&D) in electric vehicle (EV) batteries and charging systems, and funding for a consortium to address critical priorities for the next phase of wide-scale EV commercialization. DOE announced 27 projects for $71 million in funding for the Vehicle Technologies Office’s (VTO) fiscal year 2023 R&D project selections. Learn more about the selected projects. DOE also announced $60 million in funding for a battery research consortium for pre-competitive, vehicle-related advanced battery R&D that addresses critical priorities for the next phase of wide-scale EV commercialization. Learn more about the battery R&D consortium.

Joint Office of Energy and Transportation Announces Over $46 Million to Enhance EV Charging Reliability and Workforce Development

On January 19, 2024, the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation (JOET) announced $46.5 million in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding for 30 projects in 16 states and Washington, D.C. to boost EV charging performance, resiliency, and reliability; support equitable access to clean transportation solutions; and grow the clean energy workforce. Nearly $150 Million In Grant Funding Will Bolster Existing U.S. EV Charging Infrastructure

The Biden-Harris Administration announced on January 18, 2024 nearly $150 million in grants awarded to 24 recipients across 20 states to improve existing EV infrastructure. The JOET will support this effort by offering Technical Assistance to the many recipients of this funding. More information about this exciting announcement, including the full list of grant recipients, is available at driveelectric.gov.

More Than $600 Million in New Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Funding to Bolster American EV Charging

On January 11, 2024, the Biden-Harris Administration announced $623 million in grants made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program. These grants will fund 47 EV charging and alternative-fueling infrastructure projects in 22 states and Puerto Rico—including the construction of approximately 7,500 EV charging ports—accelerating President Biden’s goal of building a national network of 500,000 EV chargers. Learn more about the grant recipients on driveelectric.gov.

DOE Announces $32.5 Million in Funding to Advance Transportation Electrification

DOE announced on January 8, 2024 the selection of 16 projects totaling $32.5 million to advance technology integration in areas critical to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. Funded through VTO, the projects are expected to reduce EV infrastructure soft costs across the county, increase consumer familiarity with EVs and their benefits, and demonstrate and deploy novel transportation solutions. Learn more about the selected projects.
