Great Wall Motor (HKG: 2333) sold about 100,000 vehicles last month, with overseas markets contributing about a third.
The Chinese carmaker sold 100,061 vehicles in April, the first time this year it has surpassed the 100,000 mark, according to figures it released today.
Sales for the month were up 5.55 percent year-on-year and up 2.11 percent from March.
In the January-April period, Great Wall Motor sold 356,868 units, down 3.58 percent year-on-year.
The company sold 32,165 units overseas in April, contributing 32.15 percent of monthly sales. This is a decrease of 11.00 percent year-on-year while an increase of 1.13 percent from March.
In the January-April period, Great Wall Motor sold 123,055 units overseas, a decrease of 4.55 percent year-on-year, contributing 34.48 percent of total sales.
It sold 28,813 units of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in April, contributing 28.80 percent of the monthly sales. This is a 28.42 percent year-on-year growth and a 14.46 percent increase from March.
Great Wall Motor’s local counterpart BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) ceased production and sales of vehicles powered entirely by internal combustion engines in March 2022 to focus on the production of NEVs, including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
BYD sold 380,089 NEVs in April, up 21.34 percent year-on-year and up 0.71 percent from March, according to data it released earlier today. The company sold 79,086 NEVs overseas in April, marking the fifth consecutive month of record sales.
